TT Launch Planned

March 23, 2010 Leave a comment

  The countdown has begun !

Hello bloggers ! It’s not long now before you’ll be able to see real changes at the Chestnut Centre Library. Following on from our “Getting There ….” post, more work has been taking place behind the scenes - as well as in front of your eyes - and we’ll soon be ready to reveal your ‘new look’ Library with a more defined Teen space.

To launch the ‘new look’ a class of Year 8 students from Fartown High School will be visiting the Chestnut Centre Library on Monday 29th March 2010. They are very lucky indeed because they will be taking part in a rap poetry session with non-other than author Donovan Christopher aka “Rappaman!”

With any luck, we’ll be able to get some of the student’s work from the session posted here. Keep checkin’ the blog to see how they get on …

After his rap poetry session in the Library, “Rappaman” will be available to sell copies of his book – and, if you’re lucky, he might even sign your copy ! (Your very own “Teen Turnover” blog master already has her signed copy and can confirm it’s a great read !!)

We’ve also invited a number of V.I.P guests to our Teen Turnover launch party so they can have a look at all the hard work we’ve been doing. Guests will include colleagues from services you should all be interested in such as “Children and Young People’s Service”, Kirklees Libraries and the health workers who run the “Contraceptive Clinic” at the Chestnut Centre.

Our aim is to get them, as well as you, looking at and writing on this blog as often as possible ! What a great way to keep up to date with what’s hot and what’s not  in your area – don’t you agree ?

Getting There …..

Hi everyone !

We have had a few comments and ideas so far about what changes we could make to the Teen Section at the Chestnut Centre Library.

Especially useful is the comment from the Youth Worker, Sharon Sharp on the ‘Welcome’ page. Sharon works for Kirklees Young People’s Service and  has consulted with young people in the Deighton area. You have said you would like to see “bean bags, more books for teenagers and more computers for young people to use“.

Also, respect to “Teen Librarian” for the idea about shelving books with the covers facing outwards to make them more attractive. Nice one !

So far we have ordered some more teen books and some bean bags for the library. We are just waiting for these to arrive so keep watching the blog to see our “After Teen Turnover” pictures and check out how these look once they are installed !

Any more ideas ? Leave ‘em below !

**STOP PRESS** We are thinking of launching our new Teen area with a visit from Donovan Christopher aka Rappaman. Keep checkin’ out the blog to see how we get on !!!

Finally, don’t forget to visit  ”Our Favourite Reads” and let us know what you’re all reading at the mo !
