OUR FAVOURITE READS

MY FAVOURITE READ IS THE “TWILIGHT” SERIES BY STEPHANIE MEYER ….. NOT !
   I think vampires suck !

I don’t mean they suck as in “they suck your blood” – everyone knows they do that ! I mean they suck as in “they’re soooo boring and I don’t want to read about them even if the rest of the world does !”

Therefore, I am currently reading anything that does not have vampires in !

At the moment I am enjoying the excellent “Maximum Ride : The Angel Experiment” by James Patterson.

Check out Amazon to see what other people are saying about this book !

WIN ! WIN ! WIN!

 Joey Pigza

COMPETITION ”Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key” by Jack Gantos chronicles the adventures of a kid who “sharpens his finger in the pencil sharpener and swallows his house key. His teachers never know what he’s going to do next …..” Jacqueline Wilson describes the story as “Funny, sad and very moving”.

To be in with a chance of winning a copy of the book just leave a review below of your favourite read.

Don’t forget to include the title and the author of your book and remember to tell everyone why you have enjoyed it so much – and why they should read it too !!!

The closing date is Thursday 31st March 2011 and the best review will win the prize.

Good luck !

My favorite book I’ve read in the past few months is defiantly ‘Kiss’ by Jacqueline Wilson. I don’t normally read her books as I see her style of writing more as children books but this book includes a lot more emotion and covers all the problems teenagers have to face to this day! It’s simply about a girl named Sylvie and her best friends Carl have known each other since they were little and as they start high school they see each other differently. It’s moving and the characters seem so real once you finish the book you feel as though you know them, like they’re real people! Anyone wanting a summer read I’d strongly recommend this book to you will make you cry and smile…but it’s well worth it!

Thank you for this Lucie – it’s just the sort of detailed book review I was hoping to get on the blog ! “Kiss” by Jacqueline Wilson sounds like a really emotional and moving book – hopefully some more people will be inspired to read it after seeing your review. Well done ! Keep your eyes on the blog after the 1st September to find out who has won the competition prize ….. you seem to be in with a good chance at the moment !

Hi Veronica. Thank you for your comment. :) I hope you are finding plenty of great Manga books to borrow at the Chestnut Centre Library. Have you seen details of the two “Youth Cafe’s” to be held at the Chestnut Centre ? There is one on the 1st Nov for 8-14 year olds which will run from 4-6 pm. There is also one on the 4th Nov for 15-19 year olds which will run from 5.30-7.30 pm. It is up to the people who attend the Youth Cafes to decide what happens at them – maybe you and your friend could come along and suggest some Manga related activities ? Take care.

When I was a teenager, I used to love reading horror stories – especially the “Pan Book of Horror Stories”. Some of the stories were genuinely very scary and even the name of the guy who edited the books – Herbert Van Thal – was enough to give you the shivers !! I remember there being quite a few volumes of the Pan Books, but sadly they’re out of print now. If you could still get them I’d probably buy them for my Library ! There seems to be so many more reading choices available to teens / young people now – I hope you get some more comments soon about what people are enjoying – or not enjoying – reading !

My favourite book at the moment is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. These are really exciting books where the main character is in constant danger. It’s set in a futuristic world with an evil government, who run The Hunger Games, a reality TV show in which teenage constestants are forced to fight to the death. For such a dark-sounding book, somehow the author works in two romantic interests for the girl-hero. I’ve read this and the sequel, Catching Fire, several times but still each time I have to stay up late to get to the ending because it’s that addictive.
